PDA ChargersIn regards to PDA chargers, the rule of thumb is more equals more. If a PDA has a color screen, large memory, multi media functions, etc. it will require more power to run than a basic PDA. Most PDAs come with either alkaline batteries (usually AAA size) or a rechargeable battery pack. Many also include an emergency backup battery to protect the memory when your main batteries run out. Depending on the PDA, one set of alkaline batteries may last a few weeks with normal use, while rechargeable battery packs typically last several hours between charges. In general, PDAs that come with rechargeable battery packs usually consume more power than PDAs that work with only alkaline batteries. Many PDAs have power-management settings to help batteries last longer. For example, you can set your PDA to turn off after a few minutes of idle time. A number of third party companies make battery packs that may be used with several name brand PDAs. PDA Buyer's GuideWhen deciding which PDA is best for you, the most important thing to keep in mind is functionality. What are you primarily going to use your PDA for? Do you want just a basic PDA to use as a date book? Will you need a modem to download e-mail and other information from the Internet to your PDA? Will you want to play games in color on your PDA? Knowing what tasks you'll use your PDA for will help you decide what memory, operating system, and software you'll need. |
