PDA Memory

PDA memory is extremely important. How much memory your PDA has will determine how many programs you may use on it, what software you can run and how much data your PDA can store. If you plan to download, take and view pictures on your PDA, you will need plenty of memory. Internal memory for a basic PDA is 8 to 16 mb while a higher end PDA may have upwards of 32 mb.

The memory on a PDA can be increased in two ways, through

upgrades or removable storage. Memory upgrades usually involve taking your PDA to an authorized dealer. Removable memory storage cards generally known as SD or secure digital cards are convenient, but can be expensive. The price for an SD card generally is decided upon by the capacity of the memory card and its transfer speed. Each PDA brand makes their own SD, but a number of third party companies such as SanDisk (www.sandisk.com), also make SD, which can be cheaper than a PDA's company brand. Some PDAs such as Sony's Clie require special memory cards that are made only by Sony. Important questions to consider in regards to memory are: How much memory does the PDA have? Does the PDA have an accessory slot to insert a SD card? Does the PDA require more expensive special memory storage products made only by the PDA manufacturer?

PDA Buyer's Guide

When deciding which PDA is best for you, the most important thing to keep in mind is functionality. What are you primarily going to use your PDA for? Do you want just a basic PDA to use as a date book? Will you need a modem to download e-mail and other information from the Internet to your PDA? Will you want to play games in color on your PDA? Knowing what tasks you'll use your PDA for will help you decide what memory, operating system, and software you'll need.
